The Instrument Selection and Development Process
- The selection of new instruments is an ongoing process involving the neutron user community in several stages.
- The NCNR Expansion Initiative was announced at a March 14, 2006 evening meeting attended by approximately 80 persons in Baltimore, MD during the General Meeting of the American Physical Society.
- A workshop on
the NCNR Expansion was held in Bethesda, MD, July 17-19, 2006 in
which 113 invitees from the neutron user community participated in
plenary and breakout sessions to provide input suggestions for
instrumentation and infrastructure. A summary report is available:
NCNR Expansion Workshop Report: Summary
- A low-resolution high intensity diffractometer for rapid investigation of materials: Materials Diffractometer

- A 'white beam' reflectometer/diffractometer: CANDOR
- A very small angle neutron scattering diffractometer: vSANS
- A multiple tagged-beam, off-specular reflectometer/diffractometer: MAGIK
